Daniel Barbu will give a seminar on the methodological challenges of comparing Greek myths to those of other cultures, particularly cultures that are not historically related to Greece (e.g., Japan, Meso-America).

Barbu is a Senior Researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris.  His research typically focuses on ancient Judaism within a comparative context.  He is one of the founders of the journal Asdiwal, which encourages the comparative study of myths and religions.  He trained in the comparative study of ancient Mediterranean religions with Philippe Borgeaud at the University of Geneva.
