Professor Charles Babcock came to Ohio State in 1966; serving as chair of the Department of Classics and first dean of the College of Humanities. He received numerous awards from Ohio State, including the Distinguished Teaching Award, and the Distinguished Service Award. A WWII veteran, Babcock received the Bronze Star for valor. Babcock widely shared his great love of ancient Rome and the Latin language – through teaching and programs he directed in Rome over the years. A date for a spring memorial service will be announced later. The family requests those wishing to honor his memory contribute to the Charles L. Babcock Rome Scholarship, #600239, which provides funds for students to study in Italy.
