Classics Speaking English: Some recent translations, versions, and retellings

"This presentation will survey key work done by several (poet-)translators from the 1990s onwards that is indicative of the particularly strong relationship that anglophone literary traditions have with classical literature. In considering classical translation, we soon arrive at an extraordinary range of textual outcomes, modes, practices and receptions: from the version that offers comment on the present, to novelistic retellings, far beyond translation, that employ conventions and settings more familiar to modern readers."
