Community Outreach:

The Modern Greek Program hosted students ages 8-13 from the Greek School of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and their parents. Ohio State students enrolled in Modern Greek language courses presented their work, taught some Greek language exercises, and encouraged the younger students in their study of Greek.  This is the fourth year of this community outreach activity of the Modern Greek Program with the local language school, organized and coordinated by Dr. Christopher Brown, November 14, 2015.  

The Modern Greek program organized a community talk by Christopher Bakken (Allegheny College), a poet, educator, professor, and translator. Title: “Honey, Olives, Octopus: A Hellenized Barbarian raids the Greek Table.” The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, April 7, 2016.

Public Lectures at Ohio State – Visiting Speakers

October 2, 2015: Natalie Bakopoulos (Wayne State University) Public talk, “Literary Spaces: The Real and the Imagined."  Guest lecturer of Modern Greek 2000: Modern Athens on October 1, 2015 and of Modern Greek 4002: Advanced Modern Greek II: on October 2, 2015.

November 9, 2015: Kenneth Zak, “From Ohio State to Greece and Back: A Poet's Journey.” (organized by Dr. Christopher Brown)

April 7, 2016: Christopher Bakken (Allegheny College), Poetry Reading, co-organized with the MFA Program, English Department, sponsored by The Modern Greek Program.

April 13, 2016: Stathis Gourgouris (Columbia), “Culture at Times of Crisis, Crisis as Culture.” The Annual Thomas E. Leontis and Anna P. Leontis Memorial Lecture in Modern Greek Studies.

Student-centered Activity
