Title:
As Rivers Flow into the Ocean: Manichaean Reception and Remake of Ancient Myth

Description:
Manichaeans claimed that all religions stemmed from a common source, and all mythologies represented distorted versions of an original myth.  Mani and his followers used a kind of comparative mythology to recover and reconstruct this imagined ur-myth, and we can understand Manichaean myth as a selective synthesis and reinterpretation of regional mythic themes of West Asia.
