Congrats to Aristogenia Toumpa as she will be participating in the academic year program (2023-2024) at the American School for Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA)!
Graduate Publications and Conference Papers
In March 2023, Miranda Amey, Yelena Erez, Benjamin John, Rachael Knodel, Trevor Lee, and Collin Parks presented at the 119th annual Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) conference in Utah. These were their paper titles:
- Miranda Amey, Zeus' proxy womb: Soranus' Gynecology and the Birth of Dionysus
- Yelena Erez, Remember Medea or Remember her Name?
- Benjamin John, Thumos and psyche as Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Arousal in the Homeric Poems
- Rachael Knodel, An Unexpected Epiphany: Hades in the Homeric Hymn to Demeter
- Trevor Lee, Carthaginian Kings, Consuls, and Praetors: The Suffetes and their Roman Equivalents in Livy
- Collin Parks, The Porphyry Sarcophagi of Constantinople
Ekaterina But, a recent graduate of the program, also presented a paper titled "(Re)constructing Aeschylus: A Story of Two Unsuccessful Productions in Moscow Art Theatre." Joshua A. Streeter, a Ph.D. student in Theater who works on ancient drama, also presented a paper titled "The Silences Between the Lines: Restoring or Revealing Lacunae in Translations of Menander's Samia."
In October 2023, Sergio Carlos Tamez will present his paper, "Martyrdom of Pagan Philosophers at Antioch in Ammianus Marcellinus' Res Gestae 14 and 29," at the Byzantine Studies Conference.
Also in October, Miranda Amey will present a paper titled "As Fertile as the Earth: Wetness and the womb in Greco-Roman Mythology" at the University of Dayton's conference on the Philosophy of the History of Pregnancy.
Colleen Kron's article, "How to Become Immortal and Ageless: Affording Belief in Epitaphs with Extraordinary Claims," was published in the June 2023 volume of Archiv für Religionsgeschichte.
In January 2024, Collin Parks and Trevor Lee will be presenting at the SCS annual conference.
Recent Job Placements

- Kathryn Caliva-Smart accepted a tenure-track position at St. Bonaventure in New York
- Hanne Eisenfeld was recently awarded tenure at Boston College
