What is your major?
I am an Honors student majoring in Mathematics (Financial Track) and Classics (Classical Humanities Concentration).
What is your hometown?
Toledo, OH
Why did you choose to study the Classics?
I chose to study Classics because I always had an interest in the ancient past. After taking some Classics classes for GEs, I found I really enjoyed taking the classes and wanted to take more of them, so I picked up the Classics major.
What do you like most about the Department of Classics?
The Department of Classics cares about me as both a person and a student. I found the department is small enough that you can form meaningful connections with the professors, but large enough that there's a breadth of topics you can learn about.
What is your favorite class you have taken in the Department of Classics and why?
My favorite class that I have taken in the Department of Classics CLAS 2220H: Honors Classical Mythology, because I enjoyed reading and analyzing the myths. My favorite class that I'm in now is CLAS 3205: What is Race? because of how much there is to discuss during class, and how thought-provoking those discussions are.
What advice would you give to other students considering pursuing a major or minor in Classics?
Because of the different concentrations and majors offered, you can choose the major/minor that works for you, your schedule, and your future plans. This means that even if you choose the major later in your college career like I did, you can choose a path that's more flexible, and if you start earlier, you can add more depth, like the tracks with a language requirement.
