What is your major?

I am a Classics major with a Latin focus. I am also in the Honors program.

What is your hometown?

I'm from Avon Lake, OH.

Why did you choose to study Classics?

After reading the Percy Jackson series in grade school, I developed a life-long love for Classics and Greek mythology. Studying Latin for four years in high school, as well as guidance from OSU professors, cemented my desire to keep pursuing an education of Classics in college!

What do you like most about the Department of Classics?

I really appreciate how helpful and friendly both professors and students are in this department. I have only been at OSU for one full semester, but I’ve already made many great memories and connections. Also, I greatly appreciate the range offered in classes and research opportunities, and I cannot wait to explore these over the years.

What is your favorite class you have taken in the Department of Classics and why?

As a first-year, I've only fully taken CLAS 2201H: Classical Civilization: Greece, and it was my favorite class of my first semester. I appreciated the community formed in the class, the care that the professor had for his students, and the thought-provoking discussions held. This semester, I'm taking CLAS 3401: Ancient Greek Religion, and I've been greatly enjoying new perspectives on a topic that I'm passionate about!

What advice would you give to other students considering pursuing a major or minor in Classics?

Go for it! The classes are endlessly interesting and the professors are engaging. Also, these majors pair nicely with other majors and minors. For example, I’m considering a minor in microbiology, and my STEM classes balance well with the humanities classes.
