What is your major?
I am a Classical Humanities and Psychology double major, with a minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies.

I'm from Bethesda, Maryland.

I chose to study Classics after taking Intro to Classical Literature during my Freshman year. I really loved the course, so I added a minor in Classics. Once I had finished the minor, I realized that I didn't want to stop taking Classics courses because I enjoyed them so much, which led me to add a major in Classical Humanities!

I love how close-knit the department is-- I've had a great experience meeting both professors and other students, and I am excited to continue taking classes and meeting new people within the department!

My favorite class has been Classics 3302: Citizenship in Democratic Athens with Christopher Parmenter. I loved analyzing classical sources like Aristotle's Politics and both Herodotus and Thucydides' histories, all of which were texts I had never studied before. I also really enjoyed Classics 1101: Intro to Classical Literature with Ben Folit-Weinberg, as I love reading about Greek mythology and appreciated the opportunity to explore these stories in greater depth.

If you are considering a major or minor within the department, go for it! Many of the programs offered are flexible depending on what you are interested in and work great with other fields. Classics can be a great option for students considering a double major!
